Zone Out

Do nothing. On purpose.

Your webcam watches your face and checks, six times a second, whether your gaze is resting in one place. Stay still and points accumulate. That is the whole game.

Blinking is allowed. There is no failure state and no game over. Being bad at it does not stop the points — it only slows them down.

Occasionally, something walks past.

A text from your mum. A payment notification. And a deer steps out from behind a tree and waves at you. A dolphin breaks the surface. The person sitting next to you leaps to their feet and starts dancing.

You are not supposed to look. Ignore it and you are paid a bonus. Look, and nothing happens — you just lose a little ground.

You unlock places to sit.

You start at the riverside, which is the official venue. Points open up the beach, a forest, the deep sea, and finally space. There is less and less to look at as you go. That is deliberate.

A cushion. A blanket. A cat. A goldfish. Earplugs. Twenty-six things arrive on their own as your total climbs. Nothing to buy, nothing to manage.

It works during office hours.

Three window sizes. The smallest is about the size of a video-call thumbnail.

About the camera

This game needs a webcam. It cannot be played without one.

Your camera never leaves this computer. Nothing is recorded, nothing is uploaded, nothing is shared. Face detection runs entirely in models on your own machine. No internet connection is required.

The face you see on screen is composited live and does not exist anywhere once you close the game.

Installing (macOS)

Install through the itch app and it just runs. If you download it directly, macOS will block it once, because the build is not signed with an Apple developer certificate.

macOS 15 and later: double-click, dismiss the warning, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. macOS 14 and earlier: right-click the app → Open → Open. Either way it is a one-time step.
